Mouth ulcers are often mild but disabling on a daily basis. Fortunately, there are simple and natural solutions! Here are ten of them.
1. Baking soda
Baking soda is used to kill bacteria in the house, but also in the mouth! Mix one teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water, gargle with this solution and spit it out. The bicarbonate will rebalance the pH of your mouth and limit bacterial growth, which will allow better healing (canker sores, gums, etc.).
Basil has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that will calm the pain and prevent or limit infections. Chewing basil leaves to fight a sore mouth, gingivitis and more generally for ulceration of the mouth is an effective remedy.
Sage, known for its disinfecting properties, is highly recommended for sore mouth, especially in case of mouth ulcers. Simply leave sage leaves in hot water and drink this drink in small sips. You can also let this preparation cool down and use it to make mouthwashes.
4. The essential oil of bay laurel
Dilute a few drops of bay laurel oil in a vegetable oil and apply this solution on the oral wound with a cotton swab. Be careful, essential oils are not harmless, they must be used with care.
Clove has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that are useful in case of ulceration of the mouth. It is enough to chew a clove or to deposit it directly on the sick tooth to calm the dental pain. You can also drop directly a drop of clove essential oil on the painful area.
6. The essential oil of tea tree
The essential oil of tea tree has healing and antibacterial properties. After brushing your teeth, apply a drop on the wound using a cotton swab and let it work all night. Note that nursing and pregnant women should not use essential oils. This remedy is also not recommended for children under 7 years.
7. The bramble leaves
Bramble leaves are astringent and can be used to treat mouth conditions. Boil a liter of water with a handful of wild bramble leaves. Let it boil for 5 to 10 minutes, allow to cool then filter before making a mouthwash 3 times a day.
Myrrh has been used for thousands of years for its antiseptic, healing and anti-inflammatory properties. If you have a canker sore, apply a few drops of undiluted myrrh tincture directly on it. It may sting a bit but it will be very effective.
Homeopathy is a natural remedy for sore mouth. If you have a canker sore, take 2 granules, three times a day, outside meals, Borax 5CH or 9CH. In case of a burning sensation in the mouth, Arsenicum album 9CH at a rate of 3 granules, three times a day is recommended.
Honey is a practical remedy because we always have some in our cupboards. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, it acts on pain and infection. In case of aphthae, apply it directly on it. In case of gingivitis, make gargles by mixing in hot water 2 tbsp. honey.
